FAQ / DOGS

WHAT KIND OF FLEA, TICK PREVENTION SHOULD I USE ON MY DOG, AND HOW OFTEN?

Dr. Sara recommends Bravecto. This is a chewable treat that will last 3 months. Dr. Sara likes this treat because she only has to remember to give something 4 times a year! (Did you know that she has 4 dogs that sleep in bed with her every night, some even under the covers?

We also offer a topical treatment that is applied every 30 days. Effitix is a great product that works well. Please note that Effitix, like most topical flea/tick preventions, is to be applied to a dog that has not had a bath in 48 hours and will not receive a bath for 48 hours. Topical flea/tick preventions need the oil on a dogs skin to be able to distribute all over your dog and protect them. We also recommend Seresto collars. This is a collar that lasts for 8 months. It will come off of your pet if needed. It is one of the very best products to prevent fleas and ticks while helping to prevent severe illnesses like bobcat fever or cat scratch fever.

Dogs should be on flea/tick prevention all year round!

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I BATHE MY DOG?

Typically no more than every 3 weeks, unless they have a medical skin condition.

CAN DOGS HAVE ALLERGIES?

Yes! This usually leads to ear infections, skin infections and itchy feet/bottoms. If you are concerned, please bring your dog in for an office visit. Dogs can cause a hot spot (a sore on their skin from itching) in about an hour.

IS IT OK TO DRIVE WITH MY DOG IN THE VEHICLE?

This really depends on your dog. Some do great and others go nuts! Try a short road trip first, like to the mail box. Some pets can get car sick. Let us know what problems you are experiencing and we can help you with suggestions.

WHEN SHOULD MY DOG BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED?

Age 5-6 months is perfect for most dogs.

WHAT ANNUAL VACCINATIONS DOES MY DOG NEED?

Rabies Vaccine, Distemper\Lepto (4 different kinds), Parvo\hepatitis, possibly Kennel cough, and Influenza or the Rattle Snake Vaccine.
